John Koowarta Reconciliation Law Scholarship | Indigenous Lawyers Queensland

The Law Council of Australia’s John Koowarta Reconciliation Law Scholarship is now open for the 2017 Scholarship Round. The scholarship is available to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students enrolled in an approved course of study that is a prerequisite to admission as a legal practitioner in any Australian jurisdiction at or through an Australian tertiary institution. 2016 National Indigenous Law Awards

The Commonwealth Attorney-General’s Department is calling for nominations for the 2016 National Indigenous Law Awards (NILA) and applications close 9.00am Monday 17 October 2016. These awards are designed to acknowledge the achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander lawyers and law students from across Australia. There are two prizes available the National Indigenous Legal Professional of the Year Award (Professional Award) and the National Indigenous Law Student of the Year Prize (Student Prize). Sisters in Advocacy Bursary

This award recognises the unique role that Indigenous women play in advocacy at all levels, ranging from advocacy within the community to formal government or court advocacy. Soroptimist International Brisbane is delighted to join with the Indigenous Lawyers Association of Queensland to honour the legacy of Soroptimist member, Elia Arquilla, to deliver the “Sisters in Advocacy” Bursary. 2016 Queensland Indigenous Moot

Last Friday, the 2nd Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders Students’ Moot was held at the Queensland Supreme Court. Ten Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander law students representing three universities participated. UQ represented by Zachary Frazer and Mollie O’Connor won the competition after a hard fought final against Bethany Allen and Joan Cassimatis who represented Bond University. Continue reading
