Sisters in Advocacy Bursary

This award recognises the unique role that Indigenous women play in advocacy at all levels, ranging from advocacy within the community to formal government or court advocacy. Soroptimist International Brisbane is delighted to join with the Indigenous Lawyers Association of Queensland to honour the legacy of Soroptimist member, Elia Arquilla, to deliver the “Sisters in Advocacy” Bursary. We aim through this Bursary to empower Indigenous women to have a voice.

The successful applicant will be provided $2,000 to assist in her studies and is required to provide an application no longer than 2000 words that addresses the following criteria:

  • an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander woman
  • undertaking tertiary university law study, full time or part-time (if part time, the bursary will be paid pro-rate over 2 years and the applicant must be due to complete their degree after 30 June 2018)
  • studying at a tertiary university in Queensland
  • due to complete her degree any time after 30th June 2017;
  • able to speak to economic, social or other disadvantage that warrants the grant of the bursary.
